Main Menu

Loading screen, you will know your Modict And version number. After loading screen, you will enter Main Menu screen.

Dict Manager

Modict-And supports free dictionaries such as StartDict, KDict, ZDict etc., which can be downloaded from:

http://stardict.sourceforge.net

or other websites. We can share our dictionary download links in Forum
For Stardict: Up

Download your favorite dictionaries in tarball format (.tar.bz2), in your PC use 7-Zip(recommended) software to uncompress the downloaded file, you will have 3 files under one folder:
dictname.idx
dictname.ifo
dictname.dict.dz
Use 7-Zip unzip this file dictname.dict.dz again, you will get one new file dictname.dict with postfix ".dict". This file could have other name, please rename it with same name as .idx file.
Copy these 3 files into memory or SD-card of your device:

dictname.idx
dictname.ifo
dictname.dict
Enter Dict Man., click Menu Import to open file browser to locate your copied file and select dictionary to import. Before importing, you can set the language pair or set it later.
Importing could take long time depending on the size of dictionary, please be patient and take a cup of tea or coffee :)
After importing, you can:

Click the color square to change the color marker for this dictionary;

Click the name to view the detail information or edit the language pair, decide if use this dictionary in Tip creation, or hide the translation in result screen, or other options;

Click the toggle button to active or deactivate this dictionary. Only active dictionary will be used for word searching.
For Kdict and Zdict dictionary, just copy *.pdb files into system memory or memory stick of your device. And refer to Step 5

Notice: Modict And will create some files with .mordx and .moidx as postfix under the same path where your dictionaries are placed. Please DO NOT delete them, those files are used to speed up word searching.
Download dictionary from remote server

You can also download some free dictionaries from mobabel.net remote server, switch to the download Tab and click Menu Download, after confirmation the dictionaries list
will be downloaded and you can switch the language to change the list. Choose one to view the detail infomation and decide to download it.

IPA & Speech Configuration

IPA(International Phonetic Alphabet) setting for dictionary, if your setting is right, IPA for word can be displayed correctly. Please refer to the IPA table to choose the right one, because each dictionary may have its custom IPA format.
Speech Setting:
2.1 If speech path for dictionary is set correctly, Modict will speak word out. You can download free speech voice data from Internet, for example, WyabdcRealPeopleTTS English speech data from SourceForge.net.

2.2 Copy the whole voice data folder into your mobile phone, here example with WyabdcRealPeopleTTS, your speech data directory will look like:

2.3 Then please browser the phone directory and set the Speech Path to :

SDCard/WyabdcRealPeopleTTS/

2.4 You can click the Speaker icon to pronounce the word, if this word has matched speech in voice data folder.

Search

Once you have at least one dictionary, you can begin word searching.

If you enable Use Tips under Configuration, the matched words will be listed under input field;

If not, click the search button to search. Click the word in tip list to view the translation.
The translation of word will be added into history list automatically. Click the History Tab to view the history of searching. You can sort the list by alphabet or date order. Call Menu Clear All to clear the history.
You can save the word into Wordbook by using Menu Add to Wordbook.

Wordbook

Here is the word list which you have saved by searching.
You can sort the list by alphabet or date order. Call Menu Clear All to clear the list.
Click one word to view the detail then you can edit it.
Call Menu Add New to add new word manually.

Online Dict Manager

To use Online Search, you need define online dictionary firstly. There is one example dictionary in Online-Man., you can create, modify and delete yours own online dictionaries.
You can download online dictionary defination XML script and import it, or export yours dictionaries into memory stick as XML script.

In forum you can download and share your defined online dictionary XML script.
Click the language flag to sort the list.

Online Search

Online Search may use GPRS connction if you have no WIFI connection.
Choose one predifined online dictionary and input the word, then click the search button. Wait until the remote server sends the translation back.
Result will be saved into history automatically, you can also save the word into Wordbook by using Menu Add to Wordbook.
Click the History Tab to view the history of searching.

Configuration

Use Tips: If this is inactive, by Search will not show the tip list according your input word. But please decide to use depends on your actual search speed.
Input Interval: If Tips is active, this value will be used for your inputting as interval, the search will not start until you finish your inputting.
You can set the limitation of history list.
Dictionary font size can be set freely.

Recite

Choose one dictionary as recite dictionary.
Up

Recite Random: Word will be showed randomly, click Button Next to switch next new word.
Up

Word Fill: Part of translation and word will be displayed and you need guess the left part and fill it. Click Check to view the right answer.
Up

Word Choice: One word with 4 translations will be listed and you need choose the right one.
You can shake your phone to switch next new word.

About

Here lists some OS information of your device, which will be useful if you report bug with those information.

You can check whether there is available update for Modict And.

Up

If you are using unregistered edition, you can enter Register screen to enter the register code. It will connect the remote register service to finish your registration.

QuickBar

Once Modict And is stared, Modict Quickbar will be active, it will keep active status even you quit this application, until you click "Clear Notification" .
Drag down the Notification Bar and click Quickbar, you can use dictionary outside of Modict And.
Click icon Home to enter Modict And main screen.

Click icon Add to add word into Wordbook.

Click icon Switch to switch the translation among the different dictionaries, or you can just shake your phone to switch.
