The screen here may be some difference from what you have seen in your mobile device, this is depending on the mobile device's hardware configuration, for example, it has touch screen or different memory size, screen resolution and screen size. Here the default skin for modict was used.

If your mobile phone has no language support which you will use in modict dictionary, modict will load language and font library at the beginning. Some devices may last 1 minutes, please be patient to wait. For those devices which already have the native language support, the loading process will take few seconds.

Main Menu

Current there are seven menu in this main menu, you can click left or right softkey to select.

Tips: You can click soft number button of your phone to enter the according sub-screen:

In this case, French->English Dictionary was used.

1. Lang->Trans

Up
If you have opened "Tips" Option in Option screen, there will be one tip list depend on given letter.

Click one word in the tip list, translation will be displayed.

You can save this word with translation into word book, then you can go over it few days later, to help you remember them. And you can click search to start new search.

If "Tips" Option was unchecked, once you have finished inputing some letters, move down to click the "Search" button. But even "Tips" Option is open, if you have input some words that there is no tip words for it, the search button will occur to let you search it "deeply".

And if several results have been found, one word list will be displayed.

Advanced Search

Up
Wildcards '?' and '*' are used for search.
a. '?' replaces one single char
You can place '?' any place

Modict will find the matching word list.

b. '*' replaces any chars.
You can place '*' any place

begin with '*'

end with '*'

'*' in the middle

Notice: '?' and '*' can not be used together, '?' and '*' can not be used repeatably in one search.

2. International Input Method (IME)

Up

If your mobile phone has no language support for dictionary, which you use in modict, for example, you downloaded one English-Chinese Modict on your English mobile phone. Please use language-switch button (For Nokia is #, for Sony-Ericson is *) to switch the input mode. You can find the corresponding input method.
Tips:
For Nokia-E90, click shift+3 (#) to switch
For Nokia-E61,E63,E55,E71 etc, click Fn+J (#) to switch
For Nokia-E75 etc, click Fn+K (#) to switch
For Nokia-N97, click Fn+H (#) to switch

For Chinese-Simple user, please choose "PinY" input mode to input simple chinese.

If your mobile phone has native language support, you can input the letter directly in the textfield, or switch input mode to "Nat." to enter the native input box in your phone system.

3. Trans->Lang

Up
If you have downloaded the dictionary without mate dictionary, there is no "Tips".

But if you have the mate dictioanry, the "Tips" will also work here and all operation is same as in Lang->Trans screen.

Without mate dictionary, after finishing input the letter, click search button. This process could last a few minutes.
The progress-bar will show you the search percent and found results, you can cancel the search to see the found word list.

If the found words have exceeded the maximum result setting in operation menu, you can click "Continue" menu to continue the searching after the words you have found.

4. Online Search

Please select one language to one translation, the others steps are similar with the usage of word translation.

Notice: if you are in China and use the China telecom wireless net, please enter Option to select "China Net".

5. Option

Here you can change the some option for Modict.
1. Open or close Tips, and set the number of tips
2. Set the search database
3. Select the suitable net for you

6. Word Book

Up
1. Word Book, you can find the saved word here
2. History, the words list you have searched
3. User Book, you can edit and save your own words here.
4. Recite Menu, you can enter to recite words to help you remember.

Now Random Recite, Word Fill and Word Choice modes were supported.

You can click next the change the word, the word will be displayed randomly.

Word Fill

Part of translation and the length will be given and you need input the word and click "Check" to check the result and "Next" to enter the next test.

Word Choice

Four translations of word will be listed and you need choose the right word.

7. Help

Up
You can find help here, so it is not necessary to add handbook in Modict.

8. Register

Up
Please get the register code from our site. Without registration, you will have some limitation when you use modict, the history and saved word list will have limiation. After registration, this menu will never display.
